Naïve painting

Gallerie Arc-en-Ciel was formed by Latitia Schuett in 1979 to boost up and train the beginners of Haitian Art and it is a non-profit organization. The founder who is the experienced painter in Haitian Art used her resources and financial help from her father, the West German consul of Haiti, to start the gallery. The German government also grant her the art materials and rent a three rooms for this organization. An American traveler in Haiti named Ruth Reed inspired by the paintings in the gallery and took some picture to New York and conducted an exhibition. It really made a success to those paintings and that make the gallery shifted to The United States. Now after 32 years, the gallery become more famous and it filled with a lot of master works of the Haitian artists. After the earthquake in a January, Haitian paintings had faced damages. The modern history of Haitian painting began in 1943, when DeWitt Peters shifted from America to Haiti to teach English. He had a passion in water color painting and opened a room as gallery. Seeing the poverty of the people, he opened the gallery for giving opportunity for the young painters and also provide an alternative to make the living in addition to manual labor. After one year with the grant of Haitian government he started a building Le Center d'Art in Port-au-Prince which consists of Art school and a Art gallery. In 1947, they started to paint murals in the walls of the building which attracted all over the world and the demand for Haitian painting grown. These etc arts mainly focused on human life style, tradition, religion, coastal towns, Catholicism. Haitian sculpture are also available in addition to paintings. These sculptures are drawn on paper mache bowls and figures. Naïve art is also known as outsider Art, who refers to the paintings by the artists in a difficult society who had no professional training. Naïve artists draw their work with full excitement and intentions as that of trained one, but they don't have enough knowledge about the methods of painting. naïve painting is painted out by bright colors, detailed images without any perspectives. Naïve art is related to dreams, memories, fantasies, and the scenes from the day today life with the help of colors and shapes. Naïve art is occasionally same as that of Folk Art and it is dissimilar to other as they are less aware of political issues, traditions, structures etc. This art was started over more than fifty years as a modern art's most fantastic method as it go through the ever altering styles all over, and leftover generally the same. The only important feature of these paintings is that unlike others it has a unique style. Famous Naïve artists are Henri Rousseau and Grandma Moses.
